HIGH QUALITY PAINT SHOP FOR AUTMOTIVE PLASTIC PARTS

This (dual coat) painting line in Gothenburg is designed to achieve high-quality painting of plastic parts for the automotive industry. The painting line is also designed as a test facility for experimenting with PVD technology (Physical Vapor Deposition) as an environmentally friendly alternative to the traditional chrome treatment.

To fully meet Plasman’s expectations and requirements to capacity and to secure a painting line with low scrap rates, the Plasman installation has been supplied with all necessary process zones: Load/unload, cleaning station, PVD, deionized air spray, water wall spray booth, flash-off, drying oven and cooling zone.

– Our new painting line for PVD treatment of exterior parts is the second line that we have completed with Moldow as the supplier within a short period. As with previous construction projects, we have been extremely satisfied with Moldow’s project implementation, which has been timely, flexible and competent in all respects. The PVD line places high demands on cleanliness as well as.

Paint Shop Design to High-End Painting of Plastic Parts

To achieve the necessary high-end product quality, the line is designed to minimize air migration and thereby cross contamination between the individual zones as much as possible. The minimum contamination between the process zones is achieved by an accurately controlled down-draft ventilation system including individual control of extraction and inlet airflows.

Prior to the primer application, the objects are cleaned manually and deionized. By exposing the plastic parts to a deionized airflow and at the same time ventilating the area around the objects, any fine surface dust settlement is efficiently removed before the paint application.

The spray booth is followed by a flash-off zone where the solvents are evaporated. As the paint in the flash-off zone is wet and thereby very receptive to contaminating particles, the zone is ventilated using a integrated down-draft ventilation system which includes built-in wall extraction points.

After the flash-off, the objects are dried in an electrically heated convection oven. Similar to the flash-off, the oven is designed with vertical airstreams and integrated extraction points to secure optimum temperature accuracy.

-The PVD line places high demands on cleanliness as well as air purification and air management – areas where Moldow has shown great competence – and we have therefore succeeded in starting up a complete line that makes Plasman particularly attractive as a Tier 1 supplier to the European premium car industry.
